Description
The XK140 was introduced at the end of 1954 and was the successor to the XK 120. The most important exterior changes that distinguished it from the XK120 included a 14 cm longer footwell with more space for taller drivers than the XK 120, larger front and rear bumpers with overrun protection and indicator lights under the headlights. The radiator grille remained the same size, but became a one-piece cast unit with fewer and wider vertical bars and the Jaguar emblem was integrated into the radiator grille surround. The XK140 has the XK 3.4-litre in-line engine with double overhead camshaft, which delivers the stated power of 190 hp (142 kW) at 5500 rpm as standard.
This XK 140 DHC SE offered here was built on 26 August 1955 in exactly this beautiful colour combination Pastel Blue with interior Blue / soft top Fawn in the UK and delivered to the then JAGUAR dealer Delecreoix in Paris, France. It was found after its long car life in very good condition in 2023 with matching numbers, which is now very rare and supports the preservation of value. The ‘Nut & Bolt’ restoration was completed at the end of 2024.
1,800 hours were invested. Every single bolt was taken in hand: The wooden substructure of the doors etc. and the entire electrical system were renewed. Great care was taken here to work exactly like the 1955 Jaguar factory. Every detail is in its right place, the bodywork is exclusively finished with tin instead of body filler for levelling the surfaces. A technique that only a few specialists still master and use today. The gap dimensions and the surfaces, the flat body panels speak for themselves. Two coats of clear lacquer have been applied and additionally ceramic-sealed. A classic in better than new condition with a beautiful and very rare original Pastel Blue colour.
In the course of this restoration, the vehicle was fitted with a 5-speed G-Trac gearbox to reduce the revs at high speeds to protect the engine. The original gearbox is present. Like every SE from the factory, this one is also characterised by its additional headlights and the beautiful spoked rims.
