Every car that is almost a hundred years old has a rich history. This certainly applies to this Fiat 501S with a biposto (two-seater) body in rosso corsa (racing red). In Italian documents accompanying the car, the body is called an “artigianale sport spider” (artigianale = handmade). The top speed of the four-cylinder 1460 cc side valve engine is 70 km/h, which in 1924 was an enormous speed. In the original brochure, the car is referred to as “vettura sportiva, spartana e di peso ridotto”, a “sports car, spartan and with a low weight”.
The car has had a Dutch registration since 2019. Between 2003 and 2018 it had two owners from the north of Italy. Before that, the Fiat was exhibited for no less than 44 years in the IfAS museum in Turin in northern Italy. Beautiful historical documents accompanying the car show how it participated in a parade in the 1960s and received attention in the press on several occasions.
The Fiat is largely original, and driving the car revives old times. The car drives with pre-war characteristics, but like any classic car it can participate in demonstration drives and tours. The owner will be assured of a lot of attention from bystanders.
