Description

A Citroen 2CV is always a pleasure to see, within its class it is almost peerless in the attention it demands. The Blue exterior paintwork presents well with a nicely aged feel complemented by the tidy Blue patterned seats. The feel of the car is that of a very well cared for car that has been subject to a repaint back in 2010 by a company called Flat Twins. Just 6500 miles have been completed since this work and a comprehensive file accompanies the car. With the front door glass folded up and the roof open, this 2CV resumes a position of a brilliant summers evening motor car. Having hit the headlines in French newspapers when embarking on its pilgrimage to Paris where this Citroens life began, C21 PMS proved noteworthy even in its homeland. Designed by Pierre-Jules Boulanger, it was created to be an affordable, practical vehicle for rural French farmers, capable of navigating a ploughed field carrying a basket of eggs. Though mass production of the 2CV wasn't until 1948, the cars were designed in the 1930s though production was halted in fear of the opposition using the design against French. The 2CV Special epitomises minimalism and practicality throughout the cabin while retaining the features of comfortable suspension and the roll-back roof.

Since coming into the hands of the most recent owner in 2023 over £2300 has been spent on a set of period Michelin X 125R15 tyres, greasing and servicing of the kingpins and driveshafts, a new battery, rear seat belts and 1-2-3 electronic ignition system installed. On the road, this 2CV fits the bill of what you would expect from a chirpy classic car, an instant smile on your face. The flat 2-cylinder engine plays a superb tune through the exhaust as you pootle through the country lanes, the suspension is smooth and accommodating, and the brakes pull the car to a holt swiftly. With enough seats to accommodate 3 passengers and boot capacity for a picnic, this 2CV would is idea for family trips, classic car events and shows, and of course reliable regular use. Whilst it can be improved cosmetically, it's a good driving, usable example that offers good value.
