Description

Introduced in 1959, the Chevrolet Impala Series 2 marked a significant evolution of Chevrolet's flagship full-size model. Redesigned as part of a General Motors cost-sharing programme, the 1959 Impala adopted a new X-frame chassis, allowing a lower roofline, wider body, and longer wheelbase, giving the car a more dramatic and road-hugging stance. Visually, it is defined by its bold horizontal tailfins, distinctive teardrop taillights, and wide, sculpted bodywork that perfectly captured late-1950s American design. The Impala was now established as a separate series, offered in coupe, convertible, sedan, and wagon forms. Power came from a range of inline-six and V8 engines, with performance options including the 348cu in V8 producing up to 350bhp. The 1959 Impala combined striking styling with strong performance, cementing its status as an icon of the era.

This simply stunning 5.7litre V8 1959 Impala Sports Coupe is rare on these shores, to be frank its rare even in the US where prices can reach six figures. This car was owned by an English resident who owned a car restoration business in the UK and decided he wanted a car to restore for his retirement, he sourced and purchased specifically a 59 automatic car from Texas and begun a full rotisserie restoration to concourse standards. The result is this superb example with fabulous Fiesta Red coachwork wrapping the rear quarter panel flares and chromework gleaming, the tri-tone interior is 'as new', and it has an engine bay you could 'eat your dinner off'. Our vendor was 12 when this car was new and fondly remembers that. After the sale of his mustang, he was looking for a new 'garage queen' and when this came across his radar it was a car he just had to purchase.

At the time the car had only recently finished its restoration program and as such was and is still in impeccable order, indeed it still requires running in and a little fettling before it adorns its first show of the season. Importantly for this size of car, it has power steering but also air conditioning, an extra wide rebuilt radiator for that Texas heat and a modern radio in the glove box with a CD changer unit in the custom trimmed trunk which is tastefully lined with unused spare and tools.

Garaged since restoration and truly adored our vendor, much like the restorer, he is sadly unable to enjoy the car as he had intended and thus it wants for a new home. Few cars like this have been restored to this level as the costs for the chromework alone is astronomical, but the result is spectacular and but for a little fettling this will stop traffic anywhere it goes, that we are sure of.
