Description

The Chevrolet Corvette C2 was introduced in the summer of 1962 as the second generation of the Corvette, named Sting Ray, by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand.

Another new feature was the pop-up headlights, which reappeared regularly in later model series and only disappeared again in 2005 with the Corvette C6. The C2 was also the first Corvette with independently suspended wheels; the C1 still had a rigid rear axle. Air conditioning and leather seats were new options available at extra cost. In March 1964, a Corvette C2 won the GT category at the 12 Hours of Sebring race. Roger Penske continued his winning streak in the Bahamas, crossing the finish line first in Nassau in December with Jim Hall's Grand Sport Corvette ahead of strong Cobra competition.

The Corvette C2 Sting Ray was built from September 1962 to July 1967. A total of 117,964 units were produced, including 45,546 coupés. The Sting Ray is one of Bill Mitchell's finest works. It is therefore surprising that this model was only produced until 1967. Its successor, the Corvette C3, was launched in autumn 1967.
