Description

The Audi Quattro is one of the most significant cars of the post-war era. The initial plan was to build just 400 for motorsport homologation, but due to strong demand the Quattro went into full production and the first left hand drive versions were available in the UK in the Spring of 1981, with right hand drive following in the Autumn of 1982. The first cars are easily identifiable by their twin headlamps, six-inch Ronal wheels (seven-inch Fuchs as options) and black boot spoilers. The engine was a turbo charged version of the fuel injected 2144cc five-cylinder engine which originally produced 200bhp and a massive 210 lb of torque. This phenomenal power would take the car to 60mph in 6.2 seconds and on to a top speed of 140 mph. The four-wheel drive transmission's ability to provide traction in all conditions meant that the car rewrote the rule book in terms of road holding and acceleration.

First registered on 8th August 1985, this fantastic Quattro started life as a UR model Quattro turbo, but in 1995 was taken to renowned Audi specialists QST of Haywards Heath where a 20V RR conversion was carried out. A RR specification engine was fitted as well as a correct orange digital dash display. The conversion cost a whopping £8,000 at the time and was a high end job, not to be confused with more amateur attempts. The car has been enjoyed in this specification ever since, but was eventually beginning to show signs of aging, and so upon purchasing the vehicle from his friend and long term owner, (who had the conversion carried out), a full restoration was started, but like so many projects, the costs escalated. The vendor was undeterred though and wanted to see the project through. The car was given a full bare metal restoration at a cost of £20,000, new Frankani taillights were fitted, (£750 each), rear coupe light strip (£1,500), four new Pirelli P700 tyres, new Bilstein shock absorbers, new master brake cylinder and battery. Finally the car was treated to a 4 wheel alignment, rust proof protection underneath and unusually for a Quattro a full PPF has been applied and finally a ceramic coat including the wheels was applied.

Supplied with a V5C registration document, receipts and invoices for much of the work and parts. Sold ready to go and on the button, this RR conversion isn't your usual worn out car, it has had a huge amount of money lavished on it and is now offered to sale in excellent condition.
