The Aston Martin DB7 is a sports car manufactured by Aston Martin from mid-1994 until an unknown date in 2004. With its 3.2-liter six-cylinder engine, it was the first Aston Martin in 20 years not to be powered by a V8 engine. Additionally, the DB7 revived the traditional model designation "DB" at Aston Martin, which references the initials of David Brown, the long-time owner of the brand. A total of over 7,000 DB7s were built.

The chassis of the DB7 originally came from the Jaguar XJS, which in turn inherited it from the Jaguar XJ Mark I, meaning the chassis' roots go back to the 1960s. Since Jaguar had also been part of the Ford group since 1989, the long-developed corporate sibling was allowed to serve as a parts supplier. However, the chassis was fundamentally reworked for the Aston Martin, and an entirely new suspension system was developed.

The development of the first design prototypes dates back to the 1980s when Jaguar was planning a successor to the Jaguar E-Type and XJ-S. However, the development of the vehicle, known as Jaguar Project XJ40/XJ41, was repeatedly halted in the later stages after Jaguar's sale to Ford. During the development of Project XJ41/XJ42, Keith Helfet headed Jaguar's design department, while Jim Randle was responsible for the vehicle's engineering. On the initiative of Jaguar's motorsport division, Tom Walkinshaw Racing, which had taken over the project, the second attempt, now called Project XX, was passed on to Aston Martin, using the revised Jaguar XJS platform.

Ian Callum, who had previously been chief designer at Carrozzeria Ghia in Turin and had already been involved in the design under Jaguar, was tasked with adapting the project for Aston Martin design. The codename during the DB7’s development was Project NPX, with NPX standing for Newport Pagnell Experimental. It was formally presented to the public at the Geneva Motor Show in spring 1993, though it was not drivable due to the absence of an engine and transmission.

The DB7 debuted in autumn 1994, initially as a coupe, followed by a cabriolet (called Volante by Aston Martin) in November 1995, with its formal public premiere at the 1996 LA Auto Show and North American International Auto Show. The DB7 was Aston Martin's most successful model until the V8 Vantage. By July 1998, 2,000 units had already left the assembly plant in Bloxham, breaking the record set by the DB6, which saw 1,850 units built between 1965 and 1970.

In March 1999, a facelift along with a new 5.9-liter V12 engine was introduced in Geneva, named the DB7 Vantage. Externally, these vehicles are easily recognizable by the large, round fog lights. From the beginning of 2000, the DB7 was only offered as the DB7 Vantage, again as both a coupe and cabriolet, with this engine and a slightly modified body. By early 2001, the 4,000th vehicle had been built, which, unlike most other Aston Martin models, was identical in specification to the previous 3,999 units, as it was the wish of the clients, a pair of brothers.
