Description
Alfa Romeo 75 1.8 I.E INDY - unrestored original condition / condition "2".
In May 1985, just in time for the company's 75th birthday, Alfa Romeo presented a mid-size model that completely redefined the concept of sportiness in the four-door saloon segment. The Alfa Romeo 75 is not only conspicuous for its emphatically wedge-shaped and angular design. High-revving four-cylinder petrol engines and one of the best V6 engines of all time, together with transaxle technology, ensure plenty of driving pleasure.
Ermanno Cressoni, head of the Centro Stile, has decided on an emphatically wedge-shaped and angular body for the Alfa 75. The flat front with its comparatively narrow headlights and the side line that rises towards the rear also give the car a visual dynamism. At the rear, the connection of the two rear lights by a transparent plastic strip above the number plate is striking.
The edge design is continued in the interior, the dashboard and the centre console are virtually a single block. This is matched by the unusual, bow-shaped handbrake handle.
The longitudinally mounted engines transmit their power via a two-part cardan shaft to the transmission, which is interlocked with the De-Dion rear axle and which, including the clutch, is suspended in a vibration-damped subframe - the Alfa Romeo 75 also uses the transaxle principle. This shifts part of the vehicle's weight to the rear axle, bringing the weight distribution between front and rear closer to the ideal value of 50:50. The result is neutral and easily controllable cornering behaviour even at high speeds. In addition, the rear brake discs are mounted on the inside of the differential to reduce the so-called unsprung masses. Space-saving torsion bars are used as suspension elements on the front axle. Both axles are fitted with disc brakes - internally ventilated on the more powerful models - and anti-roll bars, the efficiency of which depends on the engine variant.
The vehicle offered here is in unrestored original condition. This is impressively confirmed by the detailed expert report, which also allows the vehicle to be registered as a classic car. Of course, the excellent state of preservation is also due to the fact that the vehicle has been in a museum for 12 years, from which it was reactivated and re-registered 4 years ago. In the process, the vehicle underwent extensive maintenance and the following work, among others, was carried out:
Brake system completely overhauled: new front brake discs, new front and rear pads, revised brake callipers, new brake master cylinder and new brake hoses. In addition, of course, new tyres were fitted, all fluids and filters were changed without exception, and the ignition cables, distributor and idle speed regulator were renewed.
Great importance was attached to reliability and suitability for everyday use. The engine runs smoothly and is very responsive. The gearbox shifts perfectly and does not cause any problems. The steering is free of play, the chassis is stable and without noise. The brakes work perfectly.
The bodywork is also in very good condition. The underbody is of course unwelded and there is no rust at all. All glass surfaces are in excellent condition, all add-on parts are present and in excellent condition.
In general, the entire car is in a condition that is hard to find in an Alfa Romeo of this era. There are no dents or rough scratches in the sheet metal. The exterior impression is very good. Traces of use are hardly worth mentioning. The interior is in very good condition, nothing is torn or damaged, the headliner is perfect, the dashboard is crack-free, the seats are clean and comfortable.
All in all, a rare, sporty sedan in great condition with built-in fun to drive.
