1962 was the year that the Beatles became hugely famous, partly due to the single 'Love Me Do', but it was also a wonderful year for Alfa Romeo. The Italian brand unveiled the 2600 at the Geneva Motor Show in 1962. Not only did the Beatles create their 'reputation', Alfa Romeo also took an important step to further strengthen Alfa's reputation as a producer of stunning sports cars with the 2600. With a straight-six cylinder engine equipped with double overhead camshafts, a feature that incidentally goes all the way back to the 1920s, the 2600 followed the earlier 2000. The 2600 came in the most diverse variants; from the popular Berlina, Spider, and Sprint variants, and later other versions followed, including the 2600 Sprint Zagato and De Luxe.

Although large numbers were never produced, the 2600 offered a perfect mix of Italian design and a lively engine with good performance. This combination proved popular with a versatile audience. Especially the Sprint was really popular, despite the relatively modest production numbers of 6,999 units. The 2600 Sprint, with a Bertone body, could accommodate four adults. Alfa Romeo focused on stable handling and a high level of comfort. Although this model was slightly heavier compared to the very light Alfa Romeos of that time, this car was still able to deliver sporty accelerations. With an engine of 145 hp, the Sprint could reach a top speed of 200 km/h.

The specimen we offer here is a 1965 2600 Sprint. An interesting detail about this Alfa is that it has 'matching colours', confirmed by Centro Documentazione Alfa Romeo. Very nice, but besides that, we simply find the colour scheme stunning! This flagship of Alfa Romeo also benefits from a completely overhauled engine which is extensively documented, and we have already included some photos for you to have a look. We also provide the original booklets with this car.

This specimen can be nicely summarised as a 'driver quality'' car that you can just get into and enjoy. The exterior of this 2600 looks neat with the beautiful white colour finish. Despite having the normal signs of use, the whole fits together nicely. The bumpers, hubcaps and mirrors are shining examples of this. We find the interior decked out in blue leather upholstery. The whole matches nicely with the condition of the exterior. We like to draw your attention to some of the authentic details, such as the original clocks.

Thanks to the overhaul works, this Alfa 2600 actually drives like the flagship of Alfa back then. A delightful car with sufficient power and a beautiful sound. The handling of this 2600 is fine, and we are convinced that the new owner will enjoy this Alfa very much.
