Beschreibung

The Dino Spider is the result of a partnership born out of sporting needs between Ferrari and Fiat. Ferrari needed to quickly produce at least 500 V6 Dino engines (in memory of Enzo's son, who designed it) to homologate them for Formula 2 competitions, and Ferrari's production of the Dino 206 alone would not have reached this number quickly. So the same engines were given to Fiat, which used them to build two high-end models: the first Dino Spider – designed by Pininfarina – followed shortly thereafter by the Dino Coupé – designed by Bertone.

A noble engine, the V6 designed by Dino Ferrari in 1956, which later evolved to a 2400cc displacement and was used in the Lancia Stratos, a rally triumph throughout the 1970s.

Compared to the Dino 206 GT produced in Maranello, the Fiat Dinos had a front-mounted engine, rather than a mid-rear one, with rear-wheel drive. The lines were strikingly similar, having been designed by the same stylist, Aldo Brovarone, who emphasized the flared front wheel arches on both cars, contrasting with a rather modern, truncated tail. On both sides, a sharp rib interrupted the rounded flanks.

The Fiat Dino Spider was a resounding success, with 600 more being produced with the 2.0-liter engine after the first 500 units, followed by approximately 400 with the 2.4-liter engine.

It was a 2+1 Spider, as was common at the time, with a V6 with an aluminum crankcase, 160 horsepower—an impressive feat for a 2.0-liter engine—delivered to the rear wheels via an excellent 5-speed gearbox and four-disc brakes with power assist. The bodywork was produced by Pininfarina, which then transferred the painted cars, with the interior assembled, to Fiat, which completed the vehicles by assembling the mechanicals.

The example we are offering was delivered on December 14, 1967, in Udine, registered to a young first owner of just 19 years old, Donatella Chiurlo. It passed to its second owner from Padua in 1981 and finally arrived in Bologna in early 1986 in the garage of a friend and a great collector of classic cars. He kept it for 33 years before entrusting us with the sale to the current owner in 2019.

It left the factory in Bianco Duco and was repainted in Rosso in the 1980s—the fashion of the time—before being repainted in Grigio Argento by the owner from Bologna, color combination that matches with the black interior. It's important to note that the Dino Spiders have an all-black underbody and interior, while only the exterior is painted in the chosen color, making any color changes very simple.

In addition to repainting, the hood and cover have been redone over the years, while the interior is in excellent condition. The wheels were also repainted when the tires were recently replaced. The body shows no signs of oxidation or rust, thanks in part to limited use for most of its life.

Mechanically, regular maintenance has always been performed, and the car is in excellent condition, running smoothly, and easily driven for long distances without any issues, as the current owner has done in recent years. The odometer now reads 103,000 km (probably 203,000, given the 5-digit odometer).

An important accessory is the original Pininfarina hardtop, which completes the car and makes it usable in the winter months. It also adds a touch of charm with its "fake" brushed aluminum rollbar.

No special work is planned; the car is ready to be used and enjoyed in any season, thanks to a beautiful engine that has become legendary thanks to its many uses.

The car has a white license plate with the province of Bologna, but it can be re-registered with a black license plate for Udine or Padua. It has ASI homologation, owner's manual and the full set of its equipment.

The car can be inspected by appointment in Bologna. More details on www.gulfblue.it
