The 1976 Daimler Sovereign 4.2 litre Series II Coupe is a refined expression of British luxury from the twilight of classical automotive design. Cloaked in stately lines and generous chrome, the coupe balances traditional Jaguars proportions with Daimler's exclusive touches: a more sumptuous interior, thicker-pile carpets, and a distinctive fluted grille bearing the laurel-emblazoned mascot. Under the long hood sits Jaguar's proven 4.2 litre inline-six, delivering smooth, torquey performance well-suited to effortless motorway cruising rather than outright speed. The Series II chassis and suspension tuning provide a composed, comfortable ride while still offering competent handling for a grand tourer of its era. Inside, hand-finished wood veneers, leather seats with deep bolsters, and an array of classic toggles and gauges create an atmosphere of restrained opulence. As manufactured in 1976, this coupe represents a period when craftsmanship met modern mechanical reliability.
This lovely Daimler Sovereign Series II Coupe fitted with the desirable 4.2 litre straight six engine was supplied new by Sutton Bridge Motors and delivered on 26th October 1976. This car was in long-term family ownership for three generations which none of them used it as a very day car, only taking it out for special occasions. There is a signed letter from the first owner's grandson stating when his father inherited the car in 1983 it had covered 23,000 miles and was then put into dry storage. It was registered to his son in 1997, who put through a MoT in 2005 prior to a family wedding. Owned by the son for the next 19 years it was patently cherished and has had a reconditioned gearbox and cosmetic works including paintwork to the lower half of the car. The current owner purchased the car in November 2016 from the fourth owner who only had it for five months and put into his personal collection of cars. Finished in Old English White with Tan interior, this coupe is supplied with a V5 registration document and a detailed history file which includes the original stamped Passport to Service and other interesting period items.
