For sale is a very special — and much-loved — 1998 Volvo V70 R AWD, representing one of the most sought-after configurations of the first-generation V70 R:
2.3 Turbo, 250 HP, factory AWD and the original 5-speed manual gearbox.
On top of that, this highest engine and transition' specification is toped up with soft leather & alcantara interior, electric sunroof and the original factory Volvo RTI navigation system.
There's no another V70 R in Europe combining this specification and this level of condition.

The car currently has overall 348,500 km, however this kind of classic performance cars are usually (if not in all cases) in worse condition with half of this milage, when not preserved and serviced with care. The level of how much was invested in the past 28 years in current condition, is more than the milage when the investment is still to be made. This one is a very special one in my (and any future) garage - it has a milage of around 40,000 km since the major mechanical work and comprehensive underbody preservation were carried out.
I have owned the car since May 2017. Throughout that time it has been systematically and comprehensively maintained through Volvo servicing, using genuine Volvo parts.
It has always been treated as an enthusiast's and additional analog-beauty car rather than simply as everyday transportation.
This is a very special R — looked after over the years with the care and attention reserved for a collector's car.

The LW5003 variant code identifies the V70 R AWD manual configuration. The corresponding homologation confirms the B5234T4 engine, 2,319 cc displacement, 184 kW / 250 HP, 350 Nm and the M5 manual gearbox.
This is a highly specified example, with the performance specification and many of the factory options associated with the top-of-the-range V70 R.

This is not a modern Android conversion or aftermarket replacement.
The RTI system is the original Volvo equipment supplied for the car, retained in its original location and configuration.
A modern solution such as CarPlay can potentially be integrated using this location (I have kept the original Volvo display and factory appearance - nothing's changed or modded there).
The car retains its original Volvo factory audio system, integrated into the original vehicle wiring and equipment.
It also has the distinctive original 3-CD changer with its electrically extending CD magazine/module.
One of the most important features of this car is the combination of factory AWD with the 5-speed manual gearbox.
The V70 R AWD manual is an exceptionally uncommon configuration of the first-generation V70 R and one of the reasons this particular car is so interesting to enthusiasts.

The suspension, like the rest of the car, has undergone comprehensive refurbishment.
In particular:
New genuine Volvo Nivomat rear dampers
Suspension components replaced with genuine Volvo parts
No random replacement parts or cheap aftermarket suspension kit
The aim throughout the work was to preserve the character and specification of the original V70 R rather than modify it into something else.
The car has received a completely new stainless-steel exhaust system, from the front all the way to the tailpipes.
This was not a partial repair of the original exhaust, but a complete replacement designed to retain the character and appearance of the factory car.
As with many other parts of the restoration work, considerable attention was paid to the small details. One particularly important detail is the original bumper trim surrounding the openings for the twin exhaust outlets — a detail that has disappeared from many surviving V70 Rs.
These original trim pieces are now extremely difficult to source and were no longer available even in Sweden. Finding the correct pieces took two years.
Throughout the work, the objective was to preserve or recreate the details so that the car retains the appearance of a proper factory-specification V70 R, rather than looking like a modified older V70.
The V70 R has been systematically maintained through Volvo servicing for many years, with particular attention paid to retaining its original specification.
The car has undergone an extensive range of work, including:

Cooling system components

Bodywork
Comprehensive underbody preservation and protection
Genuine Volvo parts were used wherever they were available.
This is therefore not a project car waiting to be restored.
At the same time, a first-generation V70 R is a genuine performance car from the 1990s and, as such, will always be an ongoing enthusiast's project: it deserves proper care, regular maintenance and ideally a heated, dry garage.
The result is a car that has been consistently brought to and maintained in very good mechanical and usable condition by its owner.
The first-generation V70 R is already a rare car. The combination of:
is particularly special.
That is exactly the configuration of this car.
I have not found another V70 R currently offered in Europe combining this engine, drivetrain, specification and overall condition.
This is not one of the later V70 Rs from the early 2000s. It is an original first-generation V70 R from the late 1990s, with all the character that comes with it:
Alcantara, original RTI navigation, electric sunroof, an analogue period-correct interior and classic Volvo engineering.
It is very much a product of its era — and that is precisely what makes it special today.
