An eight-seat split-screen Kombi whose bodywork was done the slow way: by hand, panel by panel. Sold on the quality of the work underneath rather than on one flattering photograph — every stage of the rebuild was photographed in the workshop that carried it out, 26 images from filler primer through to the finished two-tone.
The body was stripped to bare panel and the metal was worked by hand rather than pulled straight and buried under filler. Dents were taken out of the panels themselves, filler kept thin over the top, and the whole shell block-sanded flat by hand — which is why the louvres, roof line and swage lines are still sharp instead of soft and rounded. Floor pans, wheel arches and inner panels were primed, the panel seams sealed by hand, and the arches and spare-wheel recess given a textured protective coating. Removed floor sections were treated off the vehicle.
The shell was then sprayed white throughout — door jambs, apertures and the full load area — with the doors and removable panels sprayed off the van so their edges and returns received the same coverage as their faces. The topcoat is mint green over white on the original factory colour split, with the louvres, V-nose crease and headlight surrounds cut in by hand. A roof rack is fitted and the tubular bench seat frames are back in.
Condition, stated plainly: this is a finished body and a finished paint job, not yet a running vehicle. The engine is the only thing missing — it was registered with the original 1,192 cc flat-four petrol, and the buyer should budget for a replacement. Everything else needed to complete it comes with the van: glass, chrome, bumpers, lights, trim and wheel covers are all included, simply not yet fitted. The seat frames are ready to install, and the wheels are the original 6.40-15 steels, unrefinished. The van currently travels on a trailer.
