This VW Beetle 1303 LS cabriolet is one of the 1100 ‘Champagne Edition II’ cars built for the US market in 1978. Reportedly every dealer received just two cars. This special edition is recognizable by the peach red metallic exterior colour, a sand-coloured hood, cream wite upholstery and black carpet. On this example the hood and the interior were renewed using different colours.
Under the hood lies the original 1.6-liter boxer engine with Bosch L-Jetronic injection, exclusively supplied for the American market, which demanded cleaner emissions. This makes this Champagne Edition II not only rare but also technically unique compared to the European carburetor versions.
History
This excellent example was delivered new to Los Angeles USA where it was registered on 27 June 1978. In the year 1992 the car was exported to the Netherlands. In the Netherlands the car was enjoyed by four respective owners. 1st 1992 – 2012, 2nd 2012 – 2016, 3rd 2016 – 2022, 4th 2022 – 2025, in 2025 the car was added to the collection of S2 Classic Cars.
After arrival in the Netherlands the car still featured the original Champagne edition II colours and the car remained in a very good condition. On import to the EU the US headlamps were exchanged for European type Hella H4 units. The was car repainted in the original colour on behalf of the first Dutch owner, the engine was overhauled, and the electrical system rebuilt. In 2018 the old brown hood was replaced by a new black Sonnenland hood, and the cream white interior was reupholstered with brown faux leather and black carpet.
Well-maintained
The car was very well serviced over the years. In 2011 the odometer read 27353, the car was serviced by VW dealers and specialists in 2016, 2022 and in 2025 (37133 miles). This gorgeous VW Beetle is finished in the original colour peach red metallic (Pfirsichrot LE3Y), combined with a pale brown faux leather interior and black carpet. The car is fitted with a black Sonnenland hood and a black hood cover.
This wonderful VW Beetle 1303 LS cabriolet is in a very good condition and ready to be enjoyed to the full! The car comes complete with a history file, a Volkswagen birth certificate (9 October 2024), a valuation report (8 October 2024), a Carfax document, and a wiring diagram. Also, a Blaupunkt radio cassette stereo system is fitted.
