Completely REBUILT vehicle with an extended driver's cabin – lovingly restored by the 319 specialist, Kainzmaier in Unterneukirchen. For the restoration, a brand new petrol engine was purchased from Mercedes-Benz and installed. The vehicle is equipped with an electric winch.

The L 319 was introduced at the IAA in September 1955 as a "fast truck" (not to be confused with the DKW Schnellaster) in the class below 7.5 tons. Initially, it was only available with the diesel engine from the 180 D passenger car, which produced 43 hp from 1.8 liters of displacement. Later, the petrol engine from the 180 a with 1.9 liters of displacement and 65 hp was also available. The series, with a total weight of 3.6 to 3.9 tons, was designed for a payload between 1.6 and 1.9 tons and could be ordered as a panel van, flatbed truck, low-loader, chassis for external bodies, or a small bus (O 319). At that time, it was a novelty for a vehicle of this class to be designed as a cab-over-engine vehicle with a rounded driver's cabin. Closed bodies like vans and buses were semi-integral, while flatbeds and chassis with cabins were built on a ladder frame. The engine was positioned at the front between the seats, driving the rear wheels. The technology, with solid axles front and rear and leaf springs, was simple even by the standards of the time.
The most important competitors of the Mercedes-Benz L 319 were the Opel Blitz and the Hanomag Kurier. Despite being new to this segment and with its simple design and modest comfort, over 140,000 vehicles were sold. Production ended in 1967, and its successor was the even more successful Mercedes-Benz T 2 ("Düsseldorf Transporter"). (Source: Wikipedia)
