The Mistral represents the classicism of the Trident brand, the last classic from the Orsi ownership, before the Ghibli, which instead represented the new with its V8 engine and Giugiaro's styling.
Its main feature is the six-cylinder, twin-spark engine, directly derived from the noble twelve-cylinder that powered the 250F single-seater. Initially with a 3500cc displacement, then 3700cc and 4000cc, as in the case of our example, with 255 horsepower delivered thanks to the Lucas fuel injection.
The aluminum bodywork, designed by Pietro Frua, is a masterpiece of elegance for a two-seater coupé: a distinctive feature is the high front bumper that separates the sloping hood from the horizontal, almost hidden air intake; furthermore, there is also the fully openable rear window, ideal for loading large amounts of luggage.
Disc brakes and a 5-speed ZF transmission complete the picture of a rare and refined car for passionate drivers. A total of 454 Mistral 4000 coupés were built.
The example offered here left the factory on Via Ciro Menotti on March 6, 1968, and was delivered to its first owner in Monza a few days later. The car then spent a lifetime in Latin America before returning to Italy via Germany. After nearly 60 years, the Mistral required a complete restoration, which has been carried out in recent years by renowned craftsmen specialized in this model.
The light blue color combined with the blue leather interior is very distinctive and lends great personality to an already impressive car. Borrani spoked wheels mounted on Pirelli P400 tires frame this Mistral 4000.
The recently completed restoration only requires a final tune-up before the registration, should the car remain in Italy. We are currently awaiting Maserati Classiche certification to confirm the quality of the work performed.
