Race car, ideal for rally, hillclimb and track, same owner since more than 20 years
Wonderful 1966 Lotus Elan FHC in GTS racing specs. It was a car built for the italian market, left hand drive, finished in Carnival red, prepared for racing almost 20 years ago by the current owner.
All the components from the street car were dismounted and stored, in case of a future reconversion, but this is the right sample of Elan to be used for racing: it is a multi-purpose car, suitable for every motorsport event. The current owner raced with this car on rally, hillclimbs and on racetrack as well.
The 1.6 engine with 170 hp had been prepared in Italy by Montanari, well known mechanic specialized on these engines, who particularly cared about the reliability. Gearbox and suspensions as well were prepared and upgraded for racing purpose. The car was serviced before being parked into the garage; with the FHC body the car could race in the G1 period (1966-1969), and it is performing and pleasant to drive.
Recently renewed safety equipment and HTP before the last races held recently. Below are the main interventions carried out:
replacement of head gasket and piston rings;
replacement of water radiator with larger model, ideal for circuit races;
replacement of clutch pump;
overhaul of braking system with complete replacement of pipes, fittings and brake pump;
modification of suspensions set-up with application of the rear anti-roll bar and front larger one;
overhaul of shock absorbers.
The car is road registered with italian title, complete of ASI certificate (Automoto club Storico Italiano).
This car could be seen in Siena by appointment.
