Shipping your Corvette all the way from California to Florida simply because that is where the right specialist happens to be for concours-level paintwork? That tells you something. This 1969 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible is exactly the kind of car whose previous owner clearly had no interest in doing things by halves.
The Corvette was originally finished in Riverside Gold, but during the work it was decided to go with the much sportier Monza Red. And not simply with the idea of giving it a quick color change. The entire process was extensively documented with photographs and carried out with one clear objective: show-quality results. And the outcome speaks for itself. In 2015, the Corvette was even recognized at Corvette Fame.
And perhaps even more importantly, beneath that beautiful paint lies an original and well-preserved Corvette. In other words, the spectacular finish was used to elevate an already good example to an even higher level. That suits this generation of Corvette perfectly.
The completely redesigned C3 appeared in 1968 and was heavily inspired by General Motors’ spectacular Mako Shark II concept car. Long hood, pronounced fenders, hidden headlights, and an extremely low cabin: subtlety was clearly not at the top of the design brief. Thankfully.
From 1969 onward, the Stingray name was officially brought back as well, and frankly, it is difficult to think of a name that suits this car better. Everything about the C3 looks muscular, low-slung, and just a little extravagant.
As a Convertible, the design arguably comes across even more strongly. Top down, that seemingly endless hood stretching out in front of you, and behind you the unmistakable sound of an American V8. A beautiful summer day really does not need much more than that.
This example also received several attractive upgrades. The car is equipped with power-assisted brakes and handsome Cragar S/S wheels, which suit the Corvette’s muscular character perfectly.
This Corvette presents in exceptionally neat and well-cared-for condition. The bodywork, the interior, the chrome, and of course that impressive Monza Red paintwork all show that the car has been treated with great care over the years.
A Corvette Stingray never really needs to explain why it is fun. Look at it and you understand. Start it and you understand even better. And with the top down? At that point, no explanation is needed at all.
