The Austin A40 Sports is one of the most distinctive British sports convertibles of the early 1950s. Introduced in 1950 as a sporting addition to the existing Austin range, the model remained in production until 1953. The A40 Sports was developed through a collaboration between Austin and Jensen Motors, combining Austin's mechanical platform with an exclusive body designed and manufactured by Jensen.

The elegant four-seater convertible was distinguished by its flowing wings, long bonnet and characteristic British styling. The aluminium bodywork was manufactured by Jensen Motors, giving the car a more exclusive character than conventional Austin models. With its sporty appearance and practical four-seat configuration, the A40 Sports offered an appealing combination of open-top driving pleasure and everyday usability.

Under the bonnet is a four-cylinder petrol engine from the well-known Austin A40 engine family. The A40 Sports was originally equipped with a 1,200 cc engine, paired with a four-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive. Thanks to its simple and reliable engineering, relatively low weight and distinctive engine sound, the car delivers an authentic British driving experience from the 1950s.

The Austin A40 Sports also gained international recognition following a remarkable long-distance journey in 1951, when an example completed a journey around the world in less than 22 days. This achievement demonstrated the reliability and endurance of the small British sports car. With total production of approximately 4,000 examples, the A40 Sports is now among the rarer models in Austin's history.

This 1952 example is finished in a classic white colour and displays an indicated mileage of 80,565 km. Particularly exceptional is its left-hand-drive configuration, a rare feature for this British convertible. According to the inspection report, the car is in good, honest condition and the bodywork presents well. The paintwork shows normal signs of use, and the car has undergone a colour change in the past.

The interior has been beautifully restored, while the convertible top has been improved by replacing the original synthetic material with fabric. The carpets show signs of use. The engine compartment and engine are in good condition following an older restoration, while the gearbox, brakes, lighting and suspension function properly. Points requiring attention include superficial rust on the underside and adjustment of the handbrake.

The extensive documentation is another particularly attractive feature, comprising Belgian registration documents, restoration records, manuals, brochures and a Car-Pass. The available restoration documentation provides a valuable addition to the history of this distinctive British convertible.

With its rare Jensen bodywork, elegant aluminium construction, classic white finish and restored interior, this 1952 Austin A40 Sports Convertible is a particularly appealing British classic. As one of approximately 4,000 examples built, it represents an interesting chapter in the collaboration between Austin and Jensen Motors.
