On September 15, 1988, Briton John Haldane founded "Haldane Developments Limited," later "Haldane Motor Company," in Glasgow, Scotland. His mission was to create a classic British roadster with the design of the 1950s and 1960s, but one that would reflect the current state of technology at the time—that is, in 1988.
Following his passion for the already iconic Austin Healey cars, he used the Austin Healey 100-4 as the model for his first car, the Haldane HD-100.
The car featured a rigid spaceframe chassis made of rectangular tubing, independent suspension all around, front disc brakes, contemporary engines (mostly 4-cylinder Ford units), and modern 5-speed manual transmissions. The body structure and body were constructed using a semi-monocoque design with fiberglass.
Customers could purchase the HD-100 as a complete vehicle or as a kit. A total of approximately 100 of these vehicles were produced.
According to the valid German vehicle registration documents, our HD-100 was first registered on November 31, 1989. In 2016, a British roadster enthusiast discovered it in Scotland and brought it to Germany. After a comprehensive technical inspection and individual vehicle approval, he sold it in March 2017 to a close friend, also a lover of special automobiles. From that point on, the Haldane was driven carefully but regularly and gradually improved.
A self-compiled service log documents all work done on the car since 2017. The Haldane HD-100 is a beautiful car from every angle. It perfectly emulates the Austin Healey 100-4 and captures its perfect proportions. Like the 100M, it features two rows of louvers on the hood. The two-tone blue and white paintwork is borrowed from the later Austin Healey 3000—it remains in good condition and suits the Haldane superbly. All doors and hoods open and close flawlessly, although their panel gaps don't quite reach the standard of the original (assuming a perfect restoration). Like the 100M, it features two rows of louvers on the hood.
The interior: Both the genuine leather seats and the carpets, trim, and dashboard are clean and impeccably maintained.
Technically, our Haldane boasts a truly unique feature: Instead of the usual Ford engine, our HD-100 is equipped with the Fiat Lampredi engine (aluminum DOHC) in its 2-liter configuration with two Weber twin carburetors and a 5-speed manual transmission. This guarantees maximum driving pleasure. The 110 hp of the high-revving Fiat engine have no trouble propelling the Haldane. It accelerates vehemently in every situation and, thanks to the new, custom-made Gutmann stainless steel exhaust system, sounds captivating. The steering (without power assistance!) is light, direct, and precise, and the modern suspension with independent all-around suspension ensures both excellent straight-line stability and neutral cornering, regardless of road surface.
Even though it pains me to say it: This package is clearly superior to that of its historical predecessor. Driving a Haldane is truly addictive.
Our HD-100 also features a (currently removed) roll bar, a soft top with frame, and an (ultra-rare) hardtop (in need of restoration).
We are selling our HD-100 with a fresh German roadworthiness certificate (TÜV) and a Classic Data short appraisal for your insurance company. A vehicle appraisal from 2017 valued the car at €30,000.
