The first-generation Bentley Azure Convertible was conceived while the company was still under Vickers' management and based on the highly successful Continental R.
It combined the glamour of the company's early coach-built drophead coupes with modern-day technology and staggering performance - a heady cocktail for those lucky enough to afford it. The car's presence was immense, born of automotive elegance and sheer size. The sculptured seats ensured the optimum cosseting for up to four adults and represented the height of luxury.
This example presented here today has been owned for over eight years and has been thoroughly enjoyed during this time. Trips to France and Italy were not uncommon and, as it was a 1999 model, the year of the Mulliner Special Edition, the owner felt it only right to retrofit the appropriate sporting Mulliner mesh vents on the front wings and underneath the headlights. With only 23 righthand drive versions of this magnificent motorcar, these accents give the very subtle impression of something very special indeed. Dry-stored and with regular servicing taking place at one of the very best Bentley specialists, H.R. Owen, the bills were not cheap but for a motorcar such as this, it requires only the best. The swathes of interior 'Cotswold' cream leather, subtly punctuated by contrasting 'Spruce' green piping, represent an opulent place to be, the ride made more sublime with the addition of a factory tonneau &wind deflector which sits behind the front seats. The well-appointed double-duck soft-top is in excellent condition and drops down without issue. Fine audio reproduction can be enjoyed through the Blaupunkt Barcelona head-unit with speakers subtly situated around the cockpit. A factory-fitted reversing aid has also been included with a factory-delete rear boot badge and red badging. With a Tracker included and MoT test certificate valid until November this year, the acquisition and use of this fabulous example could be straight forward and immediate.
