Beschrijving

With the introduction of the Giulietta, Alfa Romeo established the “small car, big performance” formula that would go on to define the finest models of the Milanese marque. The first of the Giuliettas, the Bertone-designed Giulietta Sprint Coupé, made its debut at the Turin Motor Show in April 1954. It was powered by a 1.3-litre all-aluminium version of Alfa’s classic twin-cam four-cylinder engine, engineered by former Ferrari engineer Giuseppe Busso. At the time, this outstanding engine was unrivalled, producing 80 hp in the standard Spider and 90 hp in the subsequent Veloce version.

Our VELOCE– mechanically fully restored!

The car offered here is an interim model from 1960, already equipped with the revised 4-speed ZF gearbox. It features the practical “lay-on” soft top for quicker operation, as well as the small, elegant rear lights that were later replaced by longer, full-width units.

Compared to the standard model, the Giulietta Spider Veloce benefits from an electric fuel pump, twin Weber 40 DCOE2 carburettors, a higher-compression cylinder head, tubular exhaust manifold, specific instruments, and a “Special” horn button. Altogether, these upgrades result in an additional 10 hp over the standard version.

Our Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider is colour and matching numbers and comes with a 100% traceable history, documented back to its first owner. The car was produced on August 9, 1960 and delivered on July 14, 1961 to the main importer in Boulogne-Billancourt near Paris, France. On September 12, 1961, it was registered by Charles LESAGE, Doctor of Medicine, under the registration number 6392CJ59. The Lesage family operated a pharmacy in Bailleul, which still exists today.

On April 10, 1963, the vehicle was sold to Maurice FERRY, a taxi driver (registration 6392CJ59). He later sold it to Roger HOTTELART, a mechanic from Poix-du-Nord near Lille, who kept the car until 1972. It was then sold to the Savoie region, where it was registered by the collector Ghislaine Jaffrelot under the registration number 289SR73. At that time, the car remained in completely original condition.

Following Mr. Jaffrelot’s passing, the car was acquired in 2024 by a German collector and enthusiast and subsequently imported to Germany. The vehicle still retains its original interior, including carpets, door panels and seats. Parts of the paintwork are believed to be original as well.

The current owner decided to carry out a comprehensive mechanical restoration. The engine was completely rebuilt: the cylinder head was resurfaced and pressure-tested, new valve seats and intake and exhaust valves were installed, and the camshafts were reconditioned. The crankshaft was straightened and new pistons fitted. In addition, the car received a new clutch with release bearing, renewed throttle linkage, rebuilt carburettors with new jets and seals, a refurbished radiator, new water pump, new alternator and new distributor.

The chassis was also fully overhauled, including new shock absorbers, new anti-roll bar and new springs. The braking system was comprehensively rebuilt front and rear, including a new master cylinder, renewed brake lines and new wheel cylinders. The rear axle was removed and completely refurbished; check straps, wishbones and the Hardy disc were replaced. Furthermore, a new fuel tank with sender unit, new fuel pump, new fuel lines and a rebuilt driveshaft were installed. The original instruments were restored. The wheels were repainted in the correct colour and fitted with five new tyres. All hoses in the engine bay were renewed.

After completion of the mechanical restoration, the car successfully passed TÜV inspection. In 2025, the owner participated in the Concours d’Elegance Tegernsee and subsequently drove the car under its own power to the Passione Engadina in Switzerland.

The car starts immediately, shifts smoothly and brakes perfectly. Since the mechanical restoration, approximately 3,000 kilometres have been covered. A service was carried out in 2025 – and this exceptional Giulietta Spider is now ready for its new owner.
