Volvo PV544 1961
- Original 'Minilite' rims & Blaupunkt radio
- Lots of recent maintenance
- Sun visor
- "Unbreakable" B18 engine block
- Fluid film anti-rust treatment
The PV544 was produced in parallel with the Amazon. Although the Amazon was intended as a successor to the popular Volvo PV444, which was a true "people's car", the Amazon proved too luxurious and (thus) too expensive for many PV444 drivers. As an interim solution, Volvo came up with the PV544. It wasn't until 1965 that the 544 was relieved by the Amazon Favorit, a "stripped-down" version of the Amazon. The 544 was a modernised version of the Volvo PV444 and was, in terms of technology, actually a different car. In appearance and bodywork, both cars were clearly from the same Volvo PV series. The differences between the 544 and the 444 mainly consist of: more modern engineering & grille, larger glass area and larger rear lights.
This PV544, is from 1961. It is finished in a neat 'Slate Blue' along with a light blue interior. Both the bodywork and the upholstery are in nice condition. Apart from this, it has extras such as the aforementioned 8-spoke Minilite rims, original Blaupunkt radio, sunroof, stainless steel bumpers kit and Cibie spotlights.
In 1999, the Volvo was imported from Sweden, restored and repainted in its original Slate blue paint. A lot of maintenance has also taken place in recent years. Important items have been renewed such as:
- Radiator
- All fluids + filters
- Master brake cylinder
- Seat upholstery and rear seat
- Door panels
- Floor covering inside and boot
- And much more!
The odometer is faulty, it shows speed but the total kilometres driven do not add up.
It is equipped with the well-known 'B18' engine block. This engine has been given the title of impressively durable. This is partly because the car with the most kilometres in the world (Volvo P1800S 1966) has driven more than 5 million kilometres with it. It consists of a 1.8-litre in-line four-cylinder. It was made from 1961 to 1968 and produces around 75hp. Coupled to this, is a well-shifting 4-speed gearbox.
For documentation, various invoices and inspections are present. In addition, a valuation report and remaining general information are included.
