Rolls-Royce gained fame in the early 20th century with the 40/50 HP Silver Ghost, which earned the title “the best car in the world” from automotive journalists due to its exceptional quality. The reputation for producing extraordinarily large, luxurious, comfortable, and above all, outstanding vehicles has never faded since. In 1925, the Silver Ghost was succeeded by the 40/50 HP New Phantom, later known as the “Phantom I.” By then, Rolls-Royce had established a factory in Springfield, Massachusetts, USA, where cars destined for the American market were assembled. Specifically the chassis, engine, bulkhead, and related components. At that time, the bodies were designed and built by coachbuilders. Brewster was among the most prestigious American coachbuilders, so much so that in 1925 they were incorporated into Rolls-Royce and developed their own line of models for the Rolls-Royce Phantom chassis.

Brewster crafted this car into a stunning Sportster. The spacious body with its luxurious grey velour interior offers the roominess of a limousine, yet the relatively low roofline gives the car a sporty appearance. The red-and-black color scheme, elegant black wire wheels with contrasting white-wall tires, Everflex roof, rear-mounted luggage trunk, and large, separate headlights are all design elements that make this Phantom I an impressive blend of stately presence and chic sportiness.
The reliable 7,668 cc inline six-cylinder engine provides ample power to give this imposing car a lively character, ensuring it makes a strong impression even in modern traffic.

This Phantom I was originally delivered new in 1929 to A.Y. Goyen of Concord, Massachusetts. Its second owner was businessman and diplomat George Howard Earle III, who served as Governor of Pennsylvania from 1934 to 1938 and acted as a special envoy for President Roosevelt to the Balkan countries. The Phantom was restored to original specifications in 1968 and later sold to Germany in 1989. It is currently registered in Belgium.
This Rolls-Royce Phantom I is in very original condition. Since its full restoration in the 1960s, the car has been carefully maintained and kept running, now showcasing a beautiful patina. The engine was replaced in the past. A few years ago, LMB Racing in Belgium performed extensive maintenance to ensure the car is technically in excellent order. With its flamboyant presence and fantastic patina, this Rolls-Royce is truly a car to be enjoyed.
