The Mercedes 300 SL Roadster needs no introduction. Everyone knows the world-famous Gullwing, but we also happen to believe the Roadster is as breathtakingly beautiful. The Roadster we are delighted to present here is almost too beautiful for words in its colour scheme. When colleagues at Gallery Aaldering proclaim among themselves how beautiful this specimen is, it is often a sign that we are dealing with something special. Mercedes-Benz introduced the 300 SL Roadster at the Geneva Motor Show in 1957. Thus, the Roadster was derived from the 300 SL Gullwing: the coupe version of the 300 SL. Compared to its predecessor, the new 300 SL Roadster was notably a more refined car. The six-cylinder engine received an upgrade, with Mercedes equipping it with the 'sporty' camshaft used in the NSL race coupes. This resulted in an additional 20 hp.

But it didn't end there. There were also several changes under the surface. Mercedes improved the handling by revising the rear suspension, with the significant advantage of drastically reducing the tendency to oversteer. The Roadster became heavier due to various modifications, primarily due to the chassis reinforcements necessary for this convertible. With the 300 SL Roadster, this model never suffered from the uncomfortably warm cabin that often plagued Gullwing drivers. Additionally, the redesigned tubular frame of the Roadster offered lower sills, making getting in and out considerably easier.
