The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, produced from 1954 to 1963, stands as a legendary two-seat sports car with a dual identity a gullwinged coupé from 1954 to 1957 and a roadster from 1957 to 1963. Originating from the W194 racing car of 1952, the 300 SL was equipped with a pioneering mechanical direct fuel injection system, significantly enhancing the power of its three-liter overhead camshaft straight-six engine. Capable of achieving speeds up to 263 km/h (163 mph), the 300 SL earned acclaim as a racing champion and the fastest production car of its era. Its iconic gullwing doors and innovative lightweight tubular-frame construction marked it as a groundbreaking automobile. The "SL" designation, derived from the German term "super-leicht" meaning "super-light," underscored the car's racing-inspired lightweight design. 

Exterior: The Mercedes 300SL #5500394 features a very glossy deep black paintwork of high quality. The car retains its original color specification in "040 Black. While some very small imperfections and traces of wear are evident, the overall condition is impressive. All panels display perfect gaps and operate very smoothly. Except for the front screen, all glass carries the Securit watermark. The car maintains perfect harmony in both condition and ride height. Time period correct Talbot mirrors fitted on the front fenders. Michelin tires fitted to the original rims.

Interior: The red leather interior of the Mercedes 300SL is crafted with attention to detail and quality, complemented by original loop-style carpeting in red. All instruments function as intended and present excellently, featuring an original-style radio.

Engine and Mechanics: Mercedes used a 3-liter, six-cylinder engine that produced 215hp for the W198. This 300SL, bearing matching numbers, possesses its original engine number and plaque corresponding to the delivery notes. The engine starts easily and runs flawlessly, with the gearbox, brakes, and other mechanics in perfect order. Previous owners have reported a full recommissioning of the engine, gearbox, final drive, and brakes by a German specialist around 2016, with additional service work performed in 2023.

History: The 1955 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing was sold by local Mercedes dealer in Braunschweig Germany on June 26th 1955. The Gullwing has a rich history, including ownership by German racing driver Kurt Ahrens.  The FIVA Card issued in December 2000 indicates ownership by the Italian company IMMOBILIARE G3 S.R.L.. This 300SL also has documented participation in the Mille Miglia between 2000 and 2010. The car has been in present ownership since 2019 and has not been used much. Frame off restoration in the late nineties and has not been used much since.
