Stylish V8 Coupé – the 500 SEC of 1985
In the 1980s, a 500 SEC was without doubt an exceptional motor car. Virtually a third of all Grand Prix drivers in the Formula One World Championship drove one — and that says a great deal. Niki Lauda, renowned for his technical and analytical abilities, even considered it the finest car of all. Solid, safe, comfortable and fast — these qualities neatly summarise the strengths of Mercedes’ flagship coupé.
Our example, naturally a Swiss-market car, was delivered in 1985 to its first owner in St. Margrethen, who most likely kept it until after the turn of the millennium. The original document wallet has been preserved, along with a sales brochure in which the optionally specified sliding sunroof is marked. The fully completed service booklet confirms the still remarkably low mileage of around 86,000 kilometres, the Mercedes having been driven only sparingly over the past 25 years in particular. The available invoices date back as far as 2012 and document that the SEC continued to be presented for inspection and properly maintained during this period.
Finished in Smoke Silver Metallic with a dark brown interior, the car’s condition may fairly be described as excellent. Over the past year alone, the consignor invested more than CHF 5,000, including new wheels and a period-style Blaupunkt Bremen DAB radio. It goes without saying that we are offering this grand touring coupé — fit for a racing driver — with a valid Swiss veteran vehicle inspection certificate.
