Only around 1,251 examples of the Mercedes-Benz 220 S Cabriolet were produced, making it one of the most exclusive open variants of the Ponton series. With the introduction of the Ponton series in the mid-1950s, Mercedes-Benz ushered in a new era of automotive design. This example was delivered in 1957 via the Mercedes-Benz branch in Hanover to a university professor. It later spent several years in Turkey before returning to Germany in 1967. At that time, the car was in need of restoration but retained strong underlying substance. Between October 2007 and July 2009, it underwent a comprehensive and meticulous restoration under the direction of Stefan Weinstock (Weinstock Klassik, Wachtberg), using exclusively original parts.
