Mercedes Benz and AMG. Today it is a combination so familiar that it almost goes unnoticed. But in the early 1990s it was something quite different. AMG was based in Affalterbach and built cars for clients who looked beyond the standard order sheet. No mass production, no uniform specifications. Simply faster, sharper and more personal. It was exactly in that period that this car came into existence.
The 300 CE 24 AMG 3.4 Cabriolet. Based on the W124, a model renowned for its solid build quality and refined driving comfort. Yet AMG saw room for more. The well known 3.0 liter M104 engine was enlarged to 3.4 liters. It may sound like a modest increase, but in practice it transforms the entire driving experience. More smoothness, greater torque and above all an engine that responds with greater urgency.
What makes this particular example so special is its extremely limited production. The 3.4 conversions and cabriolets such as this are rarely encountered. These are cars that tend to remain under the radar for years and only occasionally reappear. According to available literature only seven were built, making this an exceptionally rare AMG and a remarkable opportunity for the discerning enthusiast.
The specification further enhances its appeal. Finished in Almandine Red metallic, a color that shifts from deep burgundy to a warm red glow depending on the light. Combined with a beautifully appointed leather interior, this is a Mercedes AMG that does not demand attention yet commands it effortlessly.
A walk around the car immediately confirms its careful ownership. The paint retains a deep gloss, the wheels present beautifully and the interior shows a well preserved condition. The bodywork remains in excellent order with only minimal signs of use. Inside you will find everything expected of a Mercedes of this class. Electrically adjustable seats with memory, air conditioning, cruise control, seat heating and a Becker radio. Yet the appeal is not found in individual options but in the way everything comes together.
A comfortable cabriolet that offers something extra the moment you press the accelerator. A Mercedes that was not yet fully integrated into the AMG program as we know it today, yet clearly reflects the collaboration. Perhaps that is precisely what makes it so compelling.
A Mercedes Benz for the enthusiast who is not searching for the obvious, but for that subtle distinction that makes all the difference. Are you interested in this ultra rare Mercedes?
