There are automobiles about which there is no debate. Not among collectors, and certainly not among historians. The Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta belongs firmly in that category. And some examples stand even higher within that already rare circle. This is one of those Ferraris. What you see here is one of the most original 250 GT SWBs still in existence.

In the early 1960s, Ferrari stood at a pivotal moment. Racing technology was no longer merely adapted for road cars — the road car itself became the foundation for competition. The 250 GT SWB marked a decisive step in that evolution. Shorter, lighter, and more direct than its predecessor, it was a Ferrari that delivered composure at speed and confidence at the absolute limit. Without this model, the later 250 GTO simply would not have been possible.

Only 165 SWB Berlinettas were produced, in both steel and aluminum. This example belongs to the steel-bodied series — the more refined and versatile specification, intended for drivers who demanded performance without sacrificing usability. Beneath the Scaglietti bodywork lies the legendary 2,953 cc Colombo V12. Fed by three Weber 36 DCS carburetors, it produces approximately 240 horsepower at 7,000 rpm, paired with a four-speed manual gearbox. Mechanical purity in its finest form — no further explanation required.

Combined with its compact wheelbase and balanced suspension, Ferrari created a machine equally at home on public roads and on the racetrack. And it proved itself repeatedly. Victories at Le Mans, Sebring, the Tourist Trophy, and the Tour de France Automobile followed in rapid succession — not as isolated successes, but as a sustained demonstration of capability. The rest, quite literally, is history.

What distinguishes this particular example is its extraordinary originality — so intact that it is almost difficult to comprehend. Delivered new in 1962 to Italian industrialist Giovanni Renato Scalabrin, the car has changed hands only three times since. From 1967 to 1985 it resided in the collection of Ferrari enthusiast Giulio Dubbini.

The car remains unrestored. Remarkably original. Its Grigio Metallizzato paint carries its age with quiet dignity, while the beige leather interior tells its story without revision or embellishment. Everything you see belongs to this Ferrari. Everything you feel is authentic. Sitting in a legendary Ferrari is always special — sitting in an unrestored 250 GT SWB is something that almost never happens. This is patina at its finest — the right patina. We are genuinely captivated by this Ferrari and find it endlessly fascinating.

The engine is matching numbers, and the car’s history is fully documented, including an extensive report by Marcel Massini. Among connoisseurs, this SWB is regarded as one of the most original surviving examples — and that is precisely what makes it so exceptional. You are not merely looking at an icon; you are looking at a benchmark. A Ferrari of this caliber requires no justification — only appreciation and respect.
