The BMW New Class (German: Neue Klasse) is a platform of several BMW models produced between 1962 and 1972. A total of four saloon models and one coupé model fall under this class, specifically the 1500, 1800, 1600 and 2000 saloon models and the 2000C coupe.
The BMW 1500, the first in the Neue Klasse, was designed as a five-seater saloon with four doors. In September 1961 it was introduced at the IAA in Frankfurt. Production only started in October 1962. This now classic BMW was designed by the Italian Michelotti. In 1963, barely a year after production of the 1500 started, the 1800 and 1800 TI (Turismo Internationale) models were introduced in Geneva. These cars were completely identical to the 1500, but were equipped with a larger 1773 cc engine. In the spring of 1964, another car was added to the range, namely the BMW 1600. This version was equipped with a 1573 cc engine.
In 1965 the first Neue Klasse Coupé was released, the 2000C and 2000CS with a 1990 cc engine. The BMW 2000 sedan followed a year later. In 1969, the 2000 tii (turismo internationale, injection) was launched, the first BMW with mechanical fuel injection. The BMW 1500 remained in production (for a limited number of countries) until 1966. The last car of the Neue Klasse rolled off the production line in 1972.
The new class introduced the Hofmeister kink, a styling cue that has since appeared on most BMW cars.
This BMW presented here is an original car delivered by the official BMW dealer Smelt in Amsterdam. It still has all the original booklets that were supplied with the car: these are the manual, the maintenance booklet (stamped), the warranty booklets of the Hollandia sliding roof and the "Wanken aan BMW Motoristen". The car still has its original paint and has only been repainted in a few places. This is a very original BMW that has only run 70 dkm. It is equipped with a manual 4-speed gearbox. Furthermore, the bodywork is completely without damage and the fitting seams are still perfect.
This BMW 1800 has a 4-cylinder in-line engine with 90 HP. Cars in such a condition are extremely rare.
