The Allard K3 Roadster, introduced in 1952, was Sydney Allard’s answer to the growing demand for a civilised grand tourer that still retained the brand’s racing DNA. Unlike its track-focused J2 and J2X siblings, the K3 was designed with increased comfort and practicality, featuring a spacious 56-inch-wide bench seat that could accommodate three adults. To further enhance touring capabilities, the car was equipped with twin fuel tanks mounted in the rear fenders, freeing up valuable luggage space in the boot. A cloth-covered folding convertible top was also a welcome addition, providing weather protection that the J2 and J2X lacked.

One of only 63 built, most K3s were destined for the North American market, where buyers typically selected their own engines. While several powerplants were used, the most popular choice was the Cadillac 331-cubic-inch V-8, known for its strong performance and reliability.

According to the definitive Allard: The Records and Beyond, this particular example was delivered new to a resident of Newburgh, New York, originally finished in red over black leather. Factory records confirm it was supplied without an engine, a common practice for Allard exports. In 1994, the car resurfaced at auction, described as being in largely original condition, fitted with the Cadillac 331 V-8 and a three-speed manual transmission.

A decade later, the car was offered once again, now as part of the renowned Gene Ponder Collection, having undergone a comprehensive restoration. The interior had been reupholstered in tan leather with red piping, safety belts were added, and wire wheels with Allard-script knockoff hubs were installed to match its factory specification.

Today, this rare British-American hybrid remains in excellent condition, offering a compelling alternative to the more common American sports cars of the era. With so few ever built, the opportunity to acquire a well-preserved and beautifully restored K3 Roadster is truly special—ideal for collectors seeking a distinctive and historically significant grand tourer.
