In 1980, Alfa Romeo commissioned Italian fashion designer Valentino Garavani to design a promotional model based on the Sud. He chose a rare shade of bronze metallic combined with a black roof, gold wheels and gold Valentino side stripes. The interior was finished in black velour with gold piping, a wooden steering wheel and brown carpet.

The exterior looks very nice and the metallic paint has a deep shine. For cosmetic reasons, the Sud has been professionally repainted in the past. Of course, the Valentino striping was also reapplied at that time. There are hardly any signs of wear. The owner uses the Alfa regularly, which is obviously a pleasure. However, in heavy traffic, there was recently some minor front damage, which has been repaired very neatly. You can see from everything that the car has been well looked after.

The interior is completely original and in remarkably good condition. The seats still have their original upholstery. The dashboard is completely intact and all the instruments work as they should. It's truly a beautiful time capsule. The interior of this Alfasud is 100% original, which is quite unique. The few remaining Suds are often simple 1.2 versions, and such a beautiful 1.5 Valentino is almost impossible to find.

The reliable boxer engine starts immediately, both cold and warm, and sounds great. A boxer engine has many advantages: vibration-free, low centre of gravity and no critical revs. On the motorway, the engine is remarkably quiet thanks to the double bulkhead in the engine compartment. The Alfasud was the best-handling front-wheel drive car of its time and is still great fun to drive; tight steering, powerful brakes and a nice screeching sound. You are driving a modern classic that you can use every day.

The Sud was designed by Rudolf Hruska and his team, who developed an ingenious compact car within the set deadline and budget. It received rave reviews from all motoring journalists due to its many positive features. It could have been a huge success, some two years before the Volkswagen Golf came onto the market, which also rusted terribly... Due to inexperienced assembly line workers, numerous strikes and poor-quality steel, the first few years were a disaster. Fortunately, better steel has been used since 1980, some of which is even galvanised.

As mentioned, the beautiful Sud is in excellent condition. In 2022, and only 3,900 km ago, the timing belt was replaced, including tensioners and water pump. Also in 2022, the front brake calipers were overhauled. A major service was carried out at that time, including a new (original!) exhaust silencer. In addition, the gearbox shift bushings and the oil seal were replaced. The engine and gearbox are therefore leak-free. The master brake cylinder and reaction arm bushings are also new. The Sud is not located in Naarden, so a viewing is possible by appointment.
