1970 original Porsche 914/6 prepared according to FIA GTS specs – GR4 – by the current owner who purchased the car in 1986. The car was originally delivered new to Italy in Bahia red and remained in street legal conditions until the first 2000s when it has been fully prepared as an historic race car, according to FIA Homologation form no. 626, in GTS class.
The car was brought to bare metal, fenders were changed with fiberglass ones, as for the fron and rear hoods and bumpers to reach the minimum weight, 870 kgs.
It mounts all the accessories allowed, as the front oil cooler, the twin pump brake system which is the same as the 911 (larger calipers and vented discs), fix rocker arms, short ratio gearbox and limited slip diff ideal for rally or hillclimb.
The original 2litres engine mounts light alloy cylinders, racing pistons, twin spark racing heads, Weber 46 IDA carbs (same used on the 911R), high performance camshafts and sport exhaust: prepared by Capricorn from Germany, this engine has an urput of more than 210 bhp.
Safety fuel tank, Sassa bolted ROPS, Stack rev counter and body resprayed in Signal Orange, the same of works 914/6 with the livery of the Keller/Sage car at the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1971.
Road registered car with old italian license plates, international HTP, need safety updates because it was used just for two races in 2009 after it was finished. Two original GT seats are available separately.
The car could be seen in Bologna by appointment. Further details on www.gulfblue.it
When Porsche decided to introduce the 914, they were just looking for a substitute to the 912. The mid-engine behind the passengers was the ideal solution for safety and performances. The model was developed together with Volkswagen with a flat four cylinder engine and obtained a great success, so Porsche tried to install a 6 cyilinder from the 911 T 2000: the 914/6 was born. Despite good performances, even better than the 911 2.2T, the model didn’t get so much success so, after less than 3400 cars produced from 1969 to 71, Porsche decided to stop the production of the 914/6.
In 1970 the car obtained good results: 6th overall at the 24 hours f Le Mans (first in GT class), 5th and 6th in GT class at the 1000 kms of Nurburgring and 6 hours of Watkins Glen, 1st, 2nd and 3rd at the Marathon de la route at Nurburgring (an 86 hours non-stop race!). By the way privateers prefered the 911 S which in GTS >2000 class could fight for the overall positions; the third overall place at the 1971 Montecarlo Rally by Waldegaard was useless and Porsche decided to retire the car by official racing programs. Just some privateers carried on using the 914/6 on race, with good results.
