Met de introductie van de 911 SC in 1977 zette Porsche een nieuwe standaard voor betrouwbaarheid en rijplezier binnen de 911-familie. De SC volgde de Carrera 3.0 op en wordt door kenners gezien als een van de meest robuuste en bruikbare luchtgekoelde 911’s ooit gebouwd. De Targa-uitvoering kent een eigen verhaal: in 1965 bedacht Porsche deze open variant met kenmerkende rolbeugel als veilig alternatief voor een cabriolet, met een naam die verwijst naar de legendarische Targa Florio, waar het merk talloze successen boekte.
