The Anglia name was used by Ford UK for nearly 30 years, with the very first iteration appearing just before the outbreak of WW2. Through several different styles - always relatively basic in specification - the last model to bear the name (designated 105E) was launched in 1959 and marked probably the biggest update to the smallest car in the long-running range.
Completely revised styling included a sloping nose, prominent headlights, tailfins (very American) and a backwards slanted rear window. From the driver’s perspective, the significant change was the move away from a dated sidevalve engine to a new overhead valve design, mated to a synchromesh gearbox. Whilst still only a diminutive 997cc unit, this provided a significant performance boost, the car now topping 70 mph.
The car immediately proving popular with buyers, the performance received a further boost with the introduction of an enlarged 1198cc unit in 1962 with Anglia 123E Super. Top speed rose to over 80mph and the car now had synchromesh on all 4 forward gears, together with a (slightly) more luxurious specification – two-tone paint; twin chrome sidestrips; chrome wheel embellishers and improved interior. It is thought around 1 million of the 997cc 105E and 80,000 of the 1200 Super model were built before production ended in 1967 and the car was replaced by the new Escort model.
We know this Anglia 123E Super was first registered new in the UK in June 1966. Beyond that we have no history until it was purchased by a Guernsey-based owner in September 2022 and re-registered in the island later that year. We acquired the car in late 2025 and have carried out some limited re-commissioning work to get the Ford into a fully roadworthy status.
We have refurbished and rebuilt the braking system to return this to good working order. It looks like the Anglia may have been treated to a recent replacement Weber carburettor with K&N filter, although we have no receipt for this work. The previous Guernsey-based owner was a retired mechanic and undertook work on the car himself. The Anglia starts, runs and drives very well.
The maroon (Black Cherry) paintwork with white (Purbeck Grey) roof and side flashes looks very smart and suits the sharply styled Anglia well. All exterior trim, badgework and the wheel embellishers are present and in good condition.
The seating and interior vinyl work are in excellent condition and may have been replaced in the past, although we have no record in support of this. Similarly, it appears the Anglia has been re-carpeted at some point. The dashboard is complete and fully functioning. Given its age and originality, please note the car has no seatbelts fitted.
A smart, tidy and usable example of the top of the range model Ford Anglia. This Super is in very good running order and could readily to be pressed into daily service.
The car is currently Guernsey registered and we can assist with (international) shipping and importation processes if required.
