Chassis no. LD40973 was originally a German car, delivered new to Hamburg on 24 April 1997 by BMW Schneider to Mr. M. Leitzmann. It remained with its first owner until September 2002, when it was purchased by BMW Vriesendijk, a BMW dealership near Assen in the Netherlands. The car was subsequently sold to its second owner, who would keep it until September 2026, when we acquired it.
When first registered in the Netherlands in 2003, the Z3 had covered a mere 29,000 km. Today, mileage totals just 69.300 km, making it the second-lowest-mileage Z3 we have ever had in stock.
Finished in the wonderfully understated Arktissilber Metallic, a colour that accentuates the voluptuous lines of the wide-bodied Z3 remarkably well, it is complemented by Tanin Red Oregon leather upholstery. We think this combination strikes exactly the right balance between sophistication and sportiness, and presents extremely well.
The Z3 presents in immaculate condition throughout and retains ~95% of its original paint. Only the driver's door and rear fender have been lightly resprayed once. The Oregon leather remains beautifully supple and rich in colour, while the leather dashboard has escaped the shrinking and tearing caused by UV exposure that is so common on Z3's. Even the original red velour mats remain vibrant and fresh.
The car has always been carefully garaged and consistently maintained, and it shows.
The original specification is particularly desirable and very complete. It includes A/C, heated seats, M Sports suspension, the manual ZF 5-speed gearbox, factory hardtop, BMW Business radio, 17-inch light-alloy wheels, red velour mats, wood fascia, black soft top, luggage rack and original suitcase.
It really has all the right options, particularly if the intention is to use the car as it was meant to be used: for enjoyable longer-distance road trips. The combination of the 2.8-litre straight-six, manual gearbox, M suspension and excellent equipment such as the boot case makes this a particularly appealing Z3 for exactly that purpose.
The service history is continuous and complete, documented by the original service booklet and an accompanying history file containing numerous invoices. This Z3 has clearly been very well looked after throughout its life. The last oil service was carried out about 1.000 km's ago, in Summer 2025.
The front tires are nearly new, however the rear tires (although still showing plenty of tread and free from signs of drying out), are now more than 10 years old. We will therefore replace them with a matching set of Michelin PS's. The rear wheels will also be professionally refurbished, as they currently show a few marks from kerb contact. A car of this quality deserves nothing less.
This Z3 comes with an exceptionally complete collection of its original accessories and documentation, including the factory hardtop and hardtop cover, Z3 car cover, original wind deflector, detachable luggage rack, Z3 suitcase, complete toolkit, all keys, original books and a substantial history file. Even the original purchase invoice from its Dutch second owner has been retained.
If you're looking for a standout BMW Z3 2.8 with low mileage, excellent provenance, highly desirable specification and an unusually complete collection of original accessories, this is a particularly special example.
