Beschreibung
The Z1 was an extraordinary showcase for BMW engineering, with its distinctive vertically retracting doors, lightweight composite body panels and innovative rear suspension. Just 8,000 examples were produced worldwide between 1989 and 1991, all left hand drive, making any genuinely untouched example a rare sight today.
There can be very few BMW Z1s anywhere in the world quite like this. Purchased brand new in the UK by our vendor, this extraordinary example has never been registered, has never worn a number plate and has covered just 26 miles from new. Incredibly, it remains almost exactly as it left the BMW factory more than three decades ago. One of approximately 50 Z1s officially supplied to the UK, this is a particularly special example of BMW's revolutionary first Z-series roadster. Finished in the wonderfully distinctive Urgrün Metallic over a contrasting cream leather interior, the colour combination perfectly suits the Z1's futuristic styling.
What sets this car apart, however, is its condition. With only 26 miles recorded, the original tyres still fitted and everything remaining completely original, it presents today much as it would have done when new. The condition is quite remarkable. Having spent the vast majority of its life unused, the Z1 has recently benefited from careful recommissioning to ensure that it is ready for use by its next custodian. While it could be enjoyed on the road, we suspect many collectors will be tempted to preserve this remarkable time capsule exactly as it is. With just 26 miles, no previous registration, no number plates ever fitted and an extraordinary level of originality, we believe this must surely rank among the very best BMW Z1s anywhere in the world.
