1932 Rolls Royce 20/25 H.J. Mulliner Sports Saloon (Woolf Barnato.)
Chassis number: GBT37
Registration Number: GX41
Ordered new for Captain Woolf Barnato whom was residing at 50 Grosvenor Square at the date of order. The car was carefully specified by him to include a number of non standard features such as a 2" wider then standard dash board, 5 1/2" longer bonnet & very personalised instrumentation to the dash board. We have pictures of the car in period sitting next to Barnatos 8 litre Bentley.
This is a very original car in impeccable driving condition. The engine starts instanly having had a full rebuild & the car as a whole has a tight taut correct feel to it that one never gets from cars that have been disassembled & restored. It runs along effortlessly at 50MPH with 60 attainable for short bursts. The engine as a whole is in fine order starting off the switch almost every time when warm, exhbiting high oil pressure & running cool around 70 degrees.
Coachwork is a Continental looking sports saloon body by H.J.Mulliner of Chiswick. The headlining & leather are original with the leather having been re-dyed. The woodwork is also original with unusual pin lining to it. Ace wheel discs are fitted all round. A Tapley brake meter is also fitted above the passenger side sun visor. New carpets have also recently been installed to tidy up the interior, the orginals having been past saving. A double chrome strip runs along the body as was present when Barnato owned it.
Under the boonet the car is neat & tidy. Pleasingly the original under trays are in place as is the Bakelite mushroom coil. A spare fuse & wire bobbin are in their appointed places in the fuse box lid. To the rear of the car is a stylish trunk containing both small tools in a custom tray & large tools in the bottom of the case.
The car when new was entirely black. Since then the sides & wheels have been painted in cream. The car comes with a good history file including bills for the engine rebuild etc along with Rolls Royce chassis records.
This is an historically important car & I wold love to photograph it one day in the company of Barnato's 8 litre car to re-create the early photograph we have of the two together.
