Messerschmitt, manufacturer of fighter planes was not allowed to build planes for 10 years after WOII. The manufacturer therefore set its sights on something else. In the early 50’s Fritz Fend, who up to then was an airplane designer, came up with the KR175. KR stands for Kabinenroller, in other words a scooter with a cabin. A few years later the KR 200 came along in various guises. This restored KR200 Roadster is one of them.
The (relatively) normal Messerschmitt KR200 is characterised by a transparent roof cupola. The model is a proper icon and there is nobody who does not feel a great deal of sympathy towards it. The open variant, the Roadster, you see here is even cuter, more so than than the normal KR200, being a fantastic mix between a car, scooter and motorbike.

This blue KR200 presented here was the subject of a full restoration some time ago, using only the correct, original parts. Following this top-notch restoration this Messerschmitt was barely used, which explains this open two-seater’s current museum grade condition. Paintwork, panelwork and stainless steel strips, little bumpers, rubber moulding and the luggage rack with straw suitcase are all peerless. The KR200 features the correct 8” wheels with white-wall tyres.
The interior is fantastic. Behind the flat steering wheel you are left in no doubt where Tesla got its inspiration for the Yoke steering wheel from. With the two occupants seated in line and the instrument panel it is clear the designer was particularly involved in aeronautics. Both upholstery and instrument panel are as the Germans say in “tadellose zustand”, perfect.

The KR200 is powered by a 191 cc Fitchtel & Sachs two-stroke one-cylinder engine, that manages to squeeze a loud spluttering 10 hp. Enough to give the 230 kg weighing three-wheeler a top-speed of 105 km/hr. The driving experience is like nothing else, indescribable and unique. The sound and sensation of a two-wheeler combined with the seating of a car. Fantastic!
This KR200 comes with the necessary paperwork, including an owner’s manual, repair book, a few spare parts lists and lovely Messerschmitt books.
