Descripción

A very special 1974 Range Rover!

Tastefully upgraded in a period correct colour this Range Rover has been meticulously restored. Arguably the most desirable variation of the Range Rover with it’s simple styling and two door configuration. Current Celebrity Ownership and one of the finest examples we've seen!

The Range Rover was introduced in 1970 and can be considered the first Luxury SUV. It was launched with the promise of power, strength and safety and it certainly delivered on this. Along with a luxury cabin the Range Rover offered Permanent four-wheel drive with high and low ratio gear ranges along with coil sprung suspension making a comfortable ride over road and rough terrain.

When released a claimed 0-50mph time of 11 seconds was quoted which was impressive for something of the size and build. This addition of pace was combatted with servo assisted all round disc brakes enabling adequate stopping power and confident driving from owners.

The body was comprised of a Steel cage with Aluminium exterior panels with an easily operated and undeniably Range Rover tailgate. A feature that was continued into future models right into the 2010s.

“There is no need to travel light with a Range Rover” With large doors and folding seats that not only make this variation of the Range Rover the most visually appealing but easy to live with and use for leisure or functional purposes.

With humble underpinnings the Range Rover shared the simple yet strong ladder chassis design of Land Rovers that came before it but with a significantly advanced suspension style that would later be employed to the 90 and 110 range. With a special self energising ride levelling unit the range rover would keep its composure even under heavy load and towing. A featured that was pioneered by the Range Rover and evident in modern SUVs today.

Power is derived from a variation of the long serving and versatile rover V8, this particular engine has been bored out to 4.0 litres. Originally beginning its design in the 1950s as a Buick unit the Rover V8 powered iconic British cars right into 2000’s. From MG, Triumph, Land Rover, TVR, Morgan and of course Rover. This aluminium lightweight block has a proven, reliability, flexibility and tunability from application in 4x4s, luxury saloons, to racing machines . In Range Rover variation the V8 was set up with a 8:5:1 compression ratio allowing use of low octane fuels and had a relatively relaxed but sufficient power delivery. The V8 was mated to an all Synchromesh 4 speed gearbox along with a high and low transfer box which meant power was delivered with the expected controls of any off road vehicle but with increased comfort and style.
