Descripción

The Jaguar XK series commenced with the 1948 XK120 whose success was followed up with the XK140 model in 1954 and 3 years later, with the XK150. Initially powered by the same 3.4 litre, double overhead camshaft, straight 6 engine used in the outgoing XK140 – with a quoted 190 bhp available, using a new "B" type cylinder head – more power was available from Special Equipment models available shortly after launch and for 1960, there was the option of the larger 3.8 litre engine, rated at 220 bhp. Suspension and chassis were very similar to the XK140 and steering was by rack and pinion. Usefully, Dunlop disc brakes appeared on all 4 wheels for the first time on the XK150.

Whilst the new model bore a clear visual resemblance to the earlier XK120 and XK140 – and the same range of Open Two Seat Roadster (OTS), Fixed Head Coupe (FHC) and Drop Head Coupe (DHC) body styles were offered - the car was subtly modernised to make it the most refined XK yet. Easily spotted is the move to a single-piece, wraparound windscreen in place of the earlier spilt screen, perhaps less so the wider bonnet and enlarged radiator grille. Further changes to the car’s appearance were achieved with alterations to the shape of the front wings and matched revisions to the bodyline and rear wings. The doors were both better integrated into the bodyline and thinner than before, improving interior space. The FHC and DHC models had the windscreen re-positioned 4-inches further forward – again to increase cockpit space and make access easier. The FHC variant also had a larger curved rear window. OTS models now boasted conventional wind-up windows (in place of detachable side screens), although the positioning of the windscreen precluded the use of quarterlights. External, push-button door handles appeared for the first time.

Internally, the instrumentation and layout was improved and the dash was now leather upholstered rather than wood veneer. The car’s interior was leather upholstered throughout and revised seats were installed, making full use of the extra cabin space available.

Production of the XK150 ended in late 1960 by which time nearly 9,500 had been built. Around half of these were FHC models, with the remainder fairly evenly split between DHC and Roadster models.

The left-hand drive OTS Roadster we now have available was manufactured in 1958 and was, we believe, shipped to the USA. It re-appeared, after what was clearly a long rest, as a restoration case (painted red) with a New York dealer in 2015. The car made its way to Europe and was completely restored the following year – a full, body-off exercise requiring some 2500 hours labour - to produce the immaculate black example with matching hood and red leather interior you see today. The car moved to the UK in 2021, being re-registered in July of that year and then moved on to a Jersey-based owner in 2023, with local registration taking place in August 2024.

Mechanically in A1 condition - fully renovated, the car runs and drives very, very well. All aspects of the gearbox, steering, suspension and braking system have clearly received attention and are in good condition. A stainless steel exhaust system is fitted.

The restoration works of a little under 10 years ago took this car to a concours level condition and it remains in superb condition to this day, having clearly been very well cared for subsequently, with relatively little use. The chassis and underside of the car are exceptionally clean; the body and paintwork in equally splendid shape. The chrome trim and wire wheels still look almost new, as does the colour-matched folding roof.

Re-upholstered and re-carpeted throughout in near-immaculate condition – including the boot. The dashboard is complete and in excellent shape. A modern period-style radio unit is fitted.

Regarded as an iconic design and one of the prettiest Jaguars, this XK150 is in stunning condition throughout and an excellent drive. It might justifiably be considered as being of investment quality.

The car is currently Jersey registered. We can assist with (worldwide) shipping and importation processes if required.
