Power in Its Most Elegant Form – the 1973 Jaguar E-Type V12
The Jaguar E-Type is the refined, road-ready incarnation of a racing legend. Derived from the Jaguar D-Type, three-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the E-Type carries the spirit of competition in a form perfectly suited to the open road. Exactly ten years after the model’s debut, the Series 3 was launched in March 1971, now equipped with the then-new 5.3-litre V12 engine.
This highly sophisticated powerplant delivers over 400 Nm of torque, giving the E-Type a character that is slightly less aggressive but far smoother—and, not least, remarkably serene. Largely made from light alloy, the V12 weighs just 36 kg more than the previous inline-six engine. With around 270 bhp on tap, the Series 3 is by no means lacking in performance: it accelerates from 0–62 mph (0–100 km/h) in 6.6 seconds, reaching a top speed of 149 mph (240 km/h).
Our V12 is paired with the 3-speed Borg Warner automatic transmission, which perfectly complements the torque-rich, cruising nature of the car. The original black soft-top has been replaced with a new beige convertible roof. For less favourable weather, a matching hardtop is included, which suits the E-Type even better than the standard Series 3 coupé roof, as it avoids the tall, tower-like profile.
Over the decades, the car has been regularly maintained, with invoices on file going back to 2000. Its most recent veteran inspection was completed in 2022. The current owner, a trained mechanic, has undertaken a number of replacements and refurbishments since 2018, including the starter motor, fuel pump and hoses, various gaskets, and the re-sealing of the oil pan. The carburettors and electrical system have also been overhauled in the past three years, ensuring that this E-Type is in excellent, mechanically sound condition. The Jaguar E-Type’s authenticity is confirmed by the exclusive Heritage Trust Certificate.
