1965 | Jaguar E-Type 4.2

This is a Jaguar E-Type that really does tick all the boxes. Just 863 UK Home Market RHD Jaguars E-Type Series One 4.2 Roadsters were ever built, and this one has not been in on the market in almost 50 years. Of course this has the provenance of being a U.K. RHD car, but it also retains matching numbers, its original colour and has had just one owner since 1979. It was purchased in 1979 by its long term owner in need of restoration. A garage proprietor, he commissioned a restoration through his own business that included a full mechanical overhaul and a brand new bonnet. Since completion of the rebuild it's long term and now elderly owner covered 17,500 miles in the car and has cherished the car. Due to age and disability, the very difficult decision has been made to part with the car. It has been driven and enjoyed right up to arriving with us and has current MOT until September 2025.

In 2014/2015 the E-Type had some further renovation work, many years on since the original restoration. The E-Type had new dashboard and engine bay wiring carried out, also a new alternator harness made up. The E-Type engine was removed, the flywheel sent for specialised re-facing and a new clutch fitted. The cylinder head was removed, all cam buckets and shims sent for specialist engineering, the head was cleaned and then prepared with the block face for re-fitting with new gasket with all buckets, shims and camshafts re-fitted. Taking advantage of the engine and gearbox being out, the E-Type had new front and rear gearbox seals, gearbox mounting bushes and springs, engine mountings, new speedo drive and gear, new core plugs, crankshaft spigot bush, and new coolant hose set. Further work included a vented brake kit with aluminium 4 pot calipers, new steering rack mountings and new propshaft universal joints.

The E-Type now goes onto the market for the first time in 46 years and it's arrived with us presenting as a nicely aged restoration. It has an exceptional bonnet and strong bodyshell, the paint work has been re finished since the original restoration and is bright with good chrome, the mohair hood is like new. The interior was trimmed well over 40 years ago and is still presentable, it could he improved with new sill covers and chrome trims. The engine bay is incredibly well presented having been re-finished when the engine was out. On the road the E-Type is impressive, what is notable is the incredible engine. This 4.2 unit is incredibly quick, performance is outstanding and it's super fit, strong and healthy holding excellent oil pressure. It's beautifully set up and pulls unbelievably well. The four speed all syncro box is superb smooth and slick, without doubt the major mechanicals are excellent.

Genuine U.K. Home Market Series One 4.2 Roadsters don't come up too often, and finding one in this condition at this price point will not be easy. It's far from perfect, but it's a brilliant opportunity for someone wanting to use and enjoy the car, or improve it further cosmetically. This isn't the typical non matching numbers, average Ex US car under £100,000, this is something a little special and we'd like to find it a very good home
