Originally supplied by Jaguar Cars New York to its first owner in Pennsylvania, this E-Type began life in the United States before being imported to the UK in the late 1990s. Around 1999 it was entrusted to the renowned E-Type Centre, where it was converted to right hand drive and repainted red as part of what appears, from accompanying invoices from the time, to have been a fairly comprehensive restoration. The history file suggests significant expenditure during this period, laying the foundations for the well-presented and usable example offered today.
The car has been in the current family's ownership since 2009 and was particularly cherished by the vendor's late father, who served as President of the Hants &Berks Car Club for approximately 40 years. During his tenure he regularly enjoyed the car on club rallies and touring events throughout the UK and France, using it exactly as intended. The substantial history file reflects attentive long-term care, with invoices dating back to 1999. Notable works include an engine rebuild with unleaded conversion and electronic ignition in April 2003 (£2,393), followed in March 2006 by a reconditioned differential, rear suspension overhaul, cylinder head overhaul and the fitment of a stainless-steel exhaust by PJS Engineering (£3,600). More recently, a new alternator was fitted in June 2021, and in March 2024 PJS Engineering carried out further works including the installation of a new steering rack and engine oil service (£2,863). In February 2025, Templar Classics undertook carburettor rebuilding and general recommissioning after a short period in storage.
Today, the car presents with smart bodywork and a nicely aged interior that speaks to its careful use rather than static display. It was driven to the auction, underlining its usability and mechanical health. Accompanied by a large and detailed history file containing numerous invoices, old MoT test certificates and tax discs, this is a well-maintained and much-enjoyed E-Type with strong provenance and decades of enthusiastic ownership behind it. Excitingly offered without reserve, it represents a wonderful opportunity to acquire a genuine driver's E-Type with a rich and well-documented history. Consigned by Fraser Smith
