The 1969 Alfa Romeo 1750 GT Veloce Bertone Series 1 is among the purest and most desirable coupés ever built by Alfa Romeo. In this early version, the model was spared later aesthetic changes and retains its original, elegant lines designed by Carrozzeria Bertone.
This example was delivered new in Turin and is finished in the highly sought-after original Dark Blue (“Dutch Blue”) colour, combined with a brown interior specific to the first series. This understated yet extremely elegant colour combination perfectly highlights the timeless proportions of the Bertone body and is highly appreciated by connoisseurs and collectors.
Under the bonnet lies the characterful 1,779 cc twin-cam four-cylinder engine producing 118 hp, coupled to a manual five-speed gearbox. Thanks to disc brakes on all four wheels and a well-balanced chassis, this GTV delivers a lively, precise and pure driving experience. It is a true driver’s car, built in the spirit of classic Alfa Romeo tradition: mechanical, direct and unfiltered.
The car underwent a carefully executed full restoration in the past, documented by a file. Authenticity was respected, with original specifications and details retained. Recent investments include:
– New stainless-steel exhaust system
– New shock absorbers
– New rear bumper
– Period-correct functioning radio with original electric antenna
The bodywork was professionally repainted and presents well, with light signs of use consistent with a classic car that has been correctly driven. A small rust blister is present on the front right edge of the door. The underside is original and in good condition, with recent work carried out, although grease traces are visible.
The interior is original and shows signs of use. The seats display tears, including a torn driver’s seat. The chassis number is original, correctly positioned and clearly legible in the engine bay.
The engine bay presents a good, honest condition, with grease traces and a light oil leak at the engine and gearbox.
Mechanically, the car is in good honest condition. The engine is original, recently worked on and well adjusted. Ongoing maintenance remains necessary. The battery will need replacement in the near future. The clutch and gearbox function well. The brakes work correctly, but the handbrake requires adjustment; during a brake test a 50% imbalance was recorded.
Electrically, the horn works and the dashboard functions, but the windscreen wipers do not operate. The lighting works correctly. Suspension and axles function properly.
In summary, this is a rare, elegant and correct Series-1 1750 GTV with original specifications, strong provenance and a very attractive configuration. An example that fits perfectly in a demanding collection, yet is also ready to return to the road.
