One of 383 short-wheelbase 6C 2500 chassis produced. Powered by a matching numbers 2.5-litre DOHC six-cylinder Super Sport engine. Elegant Pinin Farina Cabriolet bodywork finished in Bordeaux with Oxblood leather interior and beige convertible hood Thoroughly documented chain of Italian owners since new Accompanied by Registro Italiano Alfa Romeo (RIAR), Automotoclub Storico Italiano (ASI) and Alfa Romeo Centro Documentazione Before World War II, Alfa Romeo was at its competitive and engineering peak, with the likes of Vittorio Jano, Gioachino Colombo and Enzo Ferrari among its ranks designing some of the greatest racing cars of the 20th century. Jano’s ingenious straight-eight, double overhead camshaft engine in the mighty 1924 Alfa Romeo P2 would form the basis for inline four- and six-cylinder engines that would power the company’s sports and road cars well into the 1950s. One of these was the 6C 1500, powered by a naturally aspirated straight-six with double overhead camshafts, the Sport variant of which proved as dominant as Alfa’s Grand Prix drivers, including victory in the 1928 Mille Miglia. The 6C straight-six continued to grow in capacity and enjoyed racing success, with the final version being the 6C 2500 introduced in 1938.
Although the 6C retained its pre-war DNA, it was built until 1952, thanks to improvements including a redesign of the straight-six by Bruno Trevisan, a steel ladder frame, independent front suspension, hydraulic brakes, a swing axle at the rear and a range of beautiful coachwork.
One of Pinin Farina’s most elegant designs for the 6C 2500
was the graceful post-war convertible bodywork offered here. Distinctly modern with its pontoon fenders and limited chrome trim, it also retained some delicate pre-war Art Deco touches, including its iconic vertical grille flanked by stylish horizontal air vents. This particular "SS" Cabriolet, mounted on a Passo Corto chassis with a short wheelbase of 2700 mm, with its 2.5-litre six-cylinder engine with three carburetors and a Super Sport specification of 105 hp, was among the most expensive and powerful configurations available at the time.
According to the Certificate of Origin, this exceptional Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Super Sport was produced on 10 May 1949 and then sent to Pinin Farina to receive its Cabriolet bodywork on the sought-after short wheelbase chassis. The car was originally registered on 5 September with the Genova registration number "GE 46353", purchased by the prominent Italian sugar manufacturer Eridania Zuccherifici Nazionali. The 6C was among the most luxurious cars available worldwide at the time, fetching 4.4 million Italian lire when new. Eridania sold the Alfa Romeo to Fidia S.R.L. of Genoa on September 25, 1957 for 300,000 lire. Fidia's owner, Antonio Luscardo, then sold the car to Arnaldo Ginocchio on March 24, 1971. Ginocchio kept the car until 1989, when it was acquired by Mondo VI SpA. The car changed hands again on March 30, 1995, when Ugo Isgrò sold the car a year later to its next long-time owner. During this period, the Registro Italiano Alfa Romeo (RIAR) inspected chassis number 915783 on May 22, 1997, and completed the certification on June 10 of that year, commending the car for meeting factory specifications. In 1998, the car also received an ASI identification card, which remains with the car. In 2019, after 23 years of ownership, the previous owner parted with his beloved 6C 2500 SS and sold it in May of that year to the current, prominent collector in Northern Italy.
Today, the Alfa Romeo is remarkably well preserved, retaining its oxblood leather interior and six
documented Italian owners since new. The bodywork is finished in burgundy paint, complemented by a beige convertible hood.
The car is provided with RIAR and ASI homologation papers,
and an Alfa Romeo Certificate of Origin, confirming that chassis number 915783 retains its matching numbers 2.5-liter DOHC six-cylinder Super Sport engine.

One of only 383 short-wheelbase Super Sport examples with 105 hp, this rare Pinin Farina-bodied Alfa Romeo is one of the company’s most sought-after early post-war models. Today it remains in fantastic condition and is ready to compete in all major historic rallies and concours events.
