Descripción

Very proud to add this car to our collection and hope to accommodate it with a true 6C enthusiast who appreciates the special qualities of this particular Alfa Romeo. This fantastic, very "bourgeois" and iconic Alfa model was sold between 1947 and 1952 with very few cars made, 680 in total (about a hundred cars per year). The rounded imposing rear wings and bouncy rear trunk were often called "the big bump". The positive side of the imposing body is the generous habitability that makes the Freccia d'Oro a very comfortable and spacious car.

It was mostly sold to international elite and several famous owners bought a Freccia d'Oro such as King Farouk of Egypt, Prince Ali Khan but also Rita Hayworth, Prince Rainier of Monaco. The car was very expensive for its time with a list price of 3.200.000 Italian lira.

It was the first car produced and marketed by Alfa Romeo after World War II in 1947. The Freccia d'Oro (Golden Arrow named after a rally) was a transitional car between the full artisanal and the more industrial eras of the company as this was the last model assembled by hand in the Portello workshops, but also because it was no longer designed by an independant coachbuilder but by the in-house coachbuilding department in Milano. Last but not least, the body was no longer bolted to the body but welded to the frame rails.

Despite its steel ladder body (heavier than the usual Superleggera aluminium Alfa Touring bodies), the car achieved impressive performance with its 87 HP capable of 160 km/h. The name "6C" is a reference to the six cylinder engine under the hood, it was an advanced piece of engineering featuring a dual overhead camshaft and a single Weber carburetor. The Alfa Freccia d,Oro proved to be successful in endurance rallies such as the Mille Miglia and the Panamericana, one of the toughest and most dangerous races at the time.

This 1950 Freccia d'Oro we offer for sale was new delivered to Francesco Giorgino from Lecce (Italy). Chassisnumber of the car is 916685, matching engine number is 927167. Unfortunately, no one know how long the car was in his possession. In the winter of 1999, the car was offered for sale in a German Classics magazine. The car was noticed by Mr Branderhorst from the Netherlands. However, as he didn't find the car fitted well in his collection at that time, he brought the car to tha attention of a Belgian friend, Mr Luc Colémont, who immediately bought the car. He was so enthusiast that he gathered all possible information about the 6C and the Freccia d'Oro in particular and published the wonderful book "Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Freccia d'Oro".

When in 2009 Mr Brandenhorst was looking for a Freccia d'Oro, Mr Luc Colémont agreed to sell him the car after participating in the 2009 Alfa Romeo 6C 2300/2500 Register Rally. Mr Brandenhorst owned the car till 2016 and sold it to its actual careful Dutch owner in 2016.

What intrigued all owners of this 6C was whether this particular one was featured in the movie classic " The Godfather Part I". All the details of the car that was used for the shooting, match with this car. this is remarkable because each Freccia differs slightly from the other. The 6C which was blown up in the movie fortunately was a replica ;-)).

This Freccia is in very original and authentic condition. The paintwork of the Alfa is over twenty years old. The car was used for its intended purpose and therefore has a beautiful patina. The interior is mostly original. An authentic Freccia d'Oro with matching numbers, in original color combination is rarely available. The car was never subject of a full restoration process but was very well maintained and parts were repaired or renewed when necessary. No doubt, this is a collector's item.
