One of the most distinctive cars to come from our sceptred isle, Morgan's 3-Wheeler combined contemporary technology with retro charm, something Morgan has become world renowned for doing, arguably more so than any other marque today. Only around 2,500 3-Wheelers left Pickersleigh Road between 2011 and 2021, and each was the product of a 40-hour process. The aluminium panels are hand formed by time-served Morgan craftspeople and riveted to an ash frame, which is then steamed to achieve the car's distinctive, aeronautical shape. The result is a truly unique and bespoke vehicle that is no less individual than a hand-crafted piece of exquisite leather luggage.
The 3-Wheeler's purposeful front end is dominated by its S&V-twin engine, complemented by the chrome exhaust pipes which exit directly from each cylinder. Producing around 83bhp, this plucky powerplant propels the sub-600kg Morgan to 120mph, and to 60mph in under five seconds. The aircraft cues are continued in the cockpit, with the black surrounds of the instruments and by the chunky toggle-switches.
This 2014 example was acquired by our vendor in 2021 and has been used sparingly in summer months since then. The matte-grey exterior presents well, with black and white detailing throughout, recalling luxury saloon cars of the early 20th century. The leather seats are in good condition, as is the Momo steering wheel, leather transmission tunnel, and chromework. There are minor signs of wear on the high-traffic areas of the car (sills, floorpans for example). Showing fewer than 20,000 miles on the clock, there are plenty more to be driven, whether down country lanes or your favourite local pub.
