Beschreibung

The Austin Healey BN1 is a classic British sportscar that marked the start of a partnership between Austin and the Donald Healey Motor Company. Introduced in 1953, it was the first of the 'Big Healey' models, combining performance and style at an accessible price. Under the bonnet, it used a 2.6 litre inline-four engine from an Austin saloon, producing about 90hp. Though modest today, its lightweight build and streamlined body gave it lively performance. An unusual feature was its three-speed gearbox with overdrive, effectively providing four forward gears. Visually, the BN1 stood out with its long bonnet, low stance, and minimal interior. It focused on driving enjoyment over luxury, offering a raw and engaging experience. Its simple design and open-top layout appealed to enthusiasts who valued a strong connection with the road. The BN1 also achieved success in motorsport, especially in endurance rallies, helping build a reputation for durability and performance. Today, it remains highly regarded among collectors for its historical importance and classic appeal.

Originally registered on 28th September 1953, this Austin Healey is a genuine UK supplied, right hand drive example, as confirmed by the Heritage Certificate. This is an early BN1 that also benefits from having a Dennis Welch aluminium cylinder head, competition head studs and a competition exhaust manifold. Confirmation of this can be found in the paperwork, along with other receipts, manuals, books etc. The V5 shows two previous keepers since 1999, however prior to that, there is thought to be one long term owner for 25 years and at least one owner before then. Unfortunately, the DVLA records for such cars prior to computerisation can be a bit sketchy. This Healey appears to have been restored circa 1970, the then owner used the car for motor sport, winning a class sprint at Duxford. The mechanics appear to have been rebuilt since then as the car presents and runs well. Probably best described as a good honest, yet thoroughly useable example of an early post-war British sportscar design, simple, elegant, and built for driving pleasure. Consigned by Stewart Banks
